Reader Theatre

We finished our Famous American unit by participating in reader's theatre.  We performed a play about Helen Keller, Martin Luther King Jr. and Susan B. Anthony.

100th day towers

The challenge was that we had to make the towers with 100 toothpicks and it had to be 5 unifix cubes tall.  By SS

Can you keep an ice cube from melting?

We conducted a STEM project this week where the children had to create a container that could insulate an ice cube.  After the ice cube was inside the container it had to sit under a heat lamp for five minutes.  The children measured the length and weight before and after the experiment and noted any changes.   The containers and ideas behind them were pretty impressive.

Compliments

Ms. Scott taught us how to not only give compliments but also how to receive them.  Ask your child about this activity.

Gas Experiments

On Wedenesday, we did a few experiments with gases.  One experiment involved mixing vinegar with baking soda.

The result is always fun to watch.  Ask your child what happened.

We started this experiment at the beginning of the week.  We mixed water, salt, and food coloring together.  We are watching as the water slowly evaporates and turns into a gas.  We hVe made a number of hypotheses over what will happen to the salt. 

Now that we have had a 5 day weekend, I wonder what the container looks like now.

Molecules Are Everywhere

We made molecules out of Cheerios. By GK

We glued molecules on a paper with solid, gas, and liquid.  By YW

Snowy Centers

With all of the snow we have been having, We thought it was fitting to have some snow inspired centers.

Read to Self in an igloo

Designing a reading t-shirt about their favorite story.  They had to write a summary on the back of their shirt.

Reading winter stories and then completing a retelling form.

Taking a "nature walk," choosing an inspiring picture and then writing a story about it.

Completing a penguin glyph and then telling friends about their likes.

Hopefully the snow will stay away now so we can have more snowy fun IN the classroom.
